Description

Gerda offer a comprehensive service and maintenance scheme with a range of options to ensure that your fire doors continue to function as they should. There is a real benefit in Gerda’s Fire Door Maintenance Programme, as Gerda has designed and developed the product range.

Doorsets are subject to regular use and punishing wear and tear. So that they function as they should, regular service and maintenance is essential.

Why is maintenance necessary?

The function of a fire doorset is:

  • To protect escape routes from the effects of fire so occupants can reach means of escape
  • To enable the Fire & Rescue Service to carry out their operational duties within compartmented areas
  • To protect the contents and structure of the building by limiting the spread of fire.

Legislative requirements

With the introduction of the (Regulatory Reform) Fire Safety Order 2005 the ‘Responsible Person’ or ‘Persons’ must ensure the safety from fire of all relevant persons. The Responsible Person is the occupier or owner of the premises, the employer of a workplace or the person ‘in control’ of the premises.

As fire doors form an important part of a building structure’s compartmentation, it is important that they are well-maintained and in good working order. This is a requirement of the Fire Safety Order – Section 17(1).
